It's hard to believe now, but You're the Voice wasn't an instant hit. It entered the Australian charts at No. 40 on October 13th 1986 and took four weeks to reach No.1. where it stayed for seven weeks: 9th November to 21st December.

You're The Voice was the last song found for the album, Whispering Jack. Chris Thompson, one of the co-writers originally insisted John couldn't record the track.
