Awards

John has collected numerous awards over the years.
The first was for 'Sadie' which was Australia's biggest selling single of the 60's and his first gold album.

1967 - Best Male Vocal

1968 - TV Week Logie for 'Best Teenage Personality'
First Gold album - Sadie

1969 - The first of 5 King of Pop awards

1970 - 'Looking Through a Tear' gave him his second gold album, and his second King of Pop.

1971 - Erik Award: Best Supporting Actor for 'Charlie Girl' and third consecutive King of Pop.

1972 - Crowned King of Melbourne's Moomba festival and along with Brian Cadd won first prize in Tokyo for 'Don't You Know it's Magic', he also received his 4th King of Pop award.

1973 - John received an unprecedented 5th Australian King of Pop award

1974 - By 1974 John had 12 gold records and an award for 'Best Dressed TV Personality'

John was the first Australian to be presented with a platinum album from EMI for record sales in excess of 1 million. He received a community award for his work with raising money for 'The Victorian Deserted Children's Association'.

1975 and 1976 proved to be harder for John, he was not selling as many records, however he was recognised for his involvement in television with the presentation of two 'Mo Awards', one for 'Best Variety Entertainer' and the other for 'Top Male Singer'. Elton John recognised how good John was and sent him 6 songs written by Bernie Taupin.

John is presented with the 1987 'Australian of the Year' award, which is the highest honour awarded in Australia. Soon after he accepts his first of 14 'Advance Australia Awards' for his contribution to the music industry and as an Ambassador for Australia. Another two 'Mo awards', the first for Daily Telegraph Male and the second for best Male Vocal.

'Age of Reason' was released early in 1988 and climbed to No.1 in Australia and went to the top of the charts in Canada, West Germany and Scandinavia, as well as reaching the top 10 in Britain, Spain and Italy.
John received his second record company award for sales over 1 million

John receives an A.O. (Order of Australia) for his services to music and community services - particularly for his work with deserted children. A plaque at The Vic. Assoc. for Deserted Children states that the centre was opened officially by John in 1977. It is a cause that is very close to his heart.

John is presented with a Life Time Achievement Award at the Federation of Australian Radio Broadcasters Convention in Adelaide. John and Tina Arena were named Best Australian Performers on Radio

2003 -
John is awarded a medal in the Centenary Of Federation Awards for 'Outstanding Service To Australian Music'. In July he also awarded by ARIA for his outstanding success on the ARIA album charts for 'The Last Time' album.
