David started his professional career in the 1980s as a keyboard player for Pyramid and The Little River Band. However, by his late twenties, he found himself in demand as a writer of advertising jingles and radio themes. This work subsequently led him to compose the score for the 1987 film Suzy's Story, and he has never looked back. His work on Strictly Ballroom earned him a 1991 BAFTA for Best Original Score, while the music for Shine five years later was nominated for both an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
